Photography to Capture the World - Vol. 2: Beloved Berlin

As I have discussed before travel photography is a new creative challenge for me to explore. During my creative career, I've been lucky enough to work explore product, food and even event photography. Travel photography is a whole new endeavour for me. Often leaving me with a dozen questions, how do I create unique photographs to stand out from the crowd in this era of influencers? How do I capture enough photos to represent a city and culture? How do I get the best out of my mirrorless Canon camera? Once I arrvied in Berlin with a list of goal photos and my new Canon EOS R6 camera with its RF 24-105mm f4-7.1 IS STM Lens. I would attempt to capture as much of the city, and answer some of these questions. Below are some of my results from this little exploration of travel photography.



Conclusion of My Travel Photography Exploration

Berlin was a challenging city to photograph. Lots of its tourist attractions have a sense of sorrow to them. While the fleeting summer weather brought about a range of new challenges. Every day the light quality would dramatically change from gorgeous blue sky during the summer heat to grey clouds bringing bone-chilling winds. I wish I had spent more time practising using my Canon camera before travelling as I noticed a lot of photographs lacked depth and detail. But my confidence in taking photographs is slowly building. I frequently fear looking like a tourist when travelling alone due to fear of being targeted by thieves. Yet I am slowly noticing I am starting to care less about how locals perceive me while I am trying to show the world the beauty of their city.
